This is a tutorial on how to install chat on an Apple device (via Trillian). (For a general description of how communication through mobile works, see Connecting Lime Talk to Your Mobile.)
First, download the Trillian from the App Store.
Open the app and click “Sign up for free!” to create a new Trillian account. You will not need this account, but unfortunately this is required to use the Trillian app. Fill in your first and last name and click on “Next”. Choose a username (“Username”) and password (“Password”), fill in the e-mail address (“Email”), and click on “Next” again. On the next screen, click “Agree” to confirm you are over 13 years old.
Select the “Settings” tab and “IM Accounts”. Your Trillian account is pre-selected by default, but we will not use it. You will need a different account, so add a new account by clicking “Add”. On the next screen, select “Jabber / XMPP”.
Now you need to fill in your XMPP/Jabber account login information (if you do not have such an account yet, you can create it for free here Xabber or here XMPP JP or here JabbIM). After filling in the login data, click on the “Add” button. After successfully adding, click “< Settings” to return to the previous screen.
Select the “Contacts” tab, click on the “+” symbol and in the “Service” field select your newly added XMPP/Jabber account.
Type “bot1@jabber.limetalk.com” in the “JID” field and click “Done”. Click on the newly added contact and click “Add” in the pop-up window.
Now locate the authorization code found in the Lime Talk client zone by clicking on your name at the top right and going to the Communication via Mobile.
On the mobile, type in the authorization code from the Lime Talk client zone (code starts “!setup…”) as a message and send. You should receive a confirmation message immediately. When the message is received, click the “<” to return to the previous screen.
To chat with multiple visitors at the same time, you need to confirm the requests of the next five contacts. Select the “Recents” tab and repeat the following step 5 times: click on “Pending Authorizations”, check the blue checkbox, and click on “Accept…”.
Finally, your Trillian startup screen should look like this:
And with that, set-up should be complete.
From now on, just be online in your XMPP/Jabber app and visitors will see you are online on your website. Once a visitor sends you a message, you will receive a notification in your app. If you want to be offline, just log out of the mobile app.
